Prime Minister Gaston Browne
Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister, Gaston Browne, is scheduled to attend the 3rd Global Citizen Now 2024 Summit in New York on the 1st and 2nd of May.
The summit brings together a diverse group of individuals, including government leaders, private sector executives, grassroots activists, cultural innovators, and philanthropic experts to discuss strategies to end extreme poverty and protect the planet.
This year, Global Citizen is focusing on driving financial investments to support developing countries in mitigating the effects of the global food, energy, and climate crises, as well as empowering adolescent girls through health and education, which are both topics that Prime Minister Browne champions.
He will also be co-chairing a mainstage panel discussion called “World at a Crossroad: Act Today to Save Tomorrow,” where he will be joined by other notable speakers such as Hugh Evans, CEO of Global Citizen, Fran Katsoudas of the Cisco Corporation, and Danai Gurira, an actress and playwright.
During his presentation, Prime Minister Browne is expected to emphasize the importance of global unity in combating climate change, calling attention to the plight of Antigua and Barbuda and other Small Island Developing States (SIDS) that have been devastated by increasingly severe hurricanes.
He will urge leaders to consider the impact of their decisions on the future of the planet and the lives of millions of people, particularly those in vulnerable communities.
In addition to his participation in the summit, Prime Minister Browne will also hold bilateral meetings with several leaders, including Alex Rafalowicz, Executive Director of the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Initiative, President of Rwanda H.E. Paul Kagame, Hans Vestberg, CEO of Verizon, and Hugh Jackman, Global Citizen Ambassador and actor.
After his two-day engagement in New York, Prime Minister Browne will travel to Nigeria to speak at the Nigerian Business Forum in Victoria Island, Lagos.
The forum is being organized by Air Peace Limited, in conjunction with key investors in Nigeria, with a focus on exploring investment opportunities in the Caribbean region, particularly in Antigua and Barbuda.
Prime Minister Browne’s participation is expected to provide a platform for addressing and interfacing with investors to produce a win-win outcome for the investors and the Government and people of Antigua and Barbuda.
Prime Minister Browne is accompanied by several officials, including Minister of Works and Housing, the Maria Browne, Acting CEO of LIAT 2020, Ambassador Davin Joseph, and Air Peace Caribbean Limited in Antigua CEO, Hafsah Abdul-Salam.
The Prime Minister is expected to return to Antigua and Barbuda on the weekend.
