A police officer and her daughter find themselves in a prolonged legal limbo nearly a year after a tragic traffic incident.
Senior officer Tulip Horsford and her daughter La-Shanti Cooper are embroiled in a court case stemming from traffic offenses allegedly leading to the fatal accident of an 18-year-old youth.
The incident unfolded on May 18, 2023, along All Saints Road near the John I Martin Race Track.
Reports suggest that Cooper, behind the wheel of a Toyota BB Motor car registered to Horsford, lost control of the vehicle while speeding from east to west.
The car veered off the road, colliding with a column before careening across to the opposite side.
Tragically, Keane Gregoire, a passenger in the vehicle, sustained severe injuries and succumbed to them in the hospital the following day.
Cooper, holding only a learner’s permit at the time, faced charges including driving without a licensed driver present, lacking proper insurance coverage, and causing Gregoire’s death due to dangerous driving.
Horsford, a veteran of the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda, found herself charged with permitting her daughter to operate her vehicle without the necessary insurance coverage.
Progress in the case has been slow, marked by several adjournments.
The duo’s most recent court appearance resulted in yet another postponement, with the next hearing set for June 13.
