A Prison Officer has been taken into custody on allegations of smuggling drugs into His Majesty’s Prison.
According to Prison Superintendent Trevor Pennyfeather, the officer was arrested by military personnel on Friday as he entered the facility to begin his shift.
Subsequently, the officer was handed over to the police for further questioning.
The incident is currently under investigation, and after the investigation, the “relevant and necessary action” will be taken, as stated by Pennyfeather.
Although the police have already interrogated the officer, the prison boss has not received any formal notification regarding the charges pressed against him.
This matter is of great concern to the prison authorities, who take it very seriously.
The prison has a strict policy against drug smuggling, and if the charges are proven, the officer will face severe consequences, Pennyfeather said
In an attempt to address the issue of integrity among prison officers, senior officers at the His Majesty’s Prison (HMP) voluntarily underwent polygraph examinations last year.
Over the past few years, there have been concerns about prison officers being complicit in the smuggling of contraband into the facility.
During a major raid in the past, several illicit items, including cell phones, cannabis, weapons, and smoking paraphernalia, were discovered.
While it is believed that gaps in the prison’s physical security have allowed for contraband to be thrown over the walls, suspicions about the involvement of prison officers have persisted.
In light of this, Pennyfeather initiated polygraph tests as a necessary measure to address the situation.
The tests were voluntary for the officers and were aimed at assessing their integrity. The results of the tests will be used to determine the best course of action.
The accuracy of the polygraph is estimated to be around 87 percent, according to the American Polygraph Association.
Why weed is not allowed in jail?
In a country promoting medical. Cannabis with two dispensary is not normal that weed is not intentionally distributed in jails,
weed promote good sleep, give appetite and keep the moral up in a peaceful spirit, so is a very good thing to give to prisoners instead of chemical pills to keep them calm.
And that would avoid getting people smuggling it in and prisoners having to do all kind of stuff in order to “pay” for it
