Prime Minister Gaston Browne has urged former LIAT employees to form an alliance and negotiate their severance pay with the government.
The government’s initial offer to the former workers was a 50 percent compassion payment in cash and bonds, which amounts to EC$110 million but this has since been reduced to 32% in addition to cash, bonds and scholarships
However, the Antigua and Barbuda Workers Union (ABWU) has been advocating for a 100 percent severance payment to the former airline employees.
The ABWU has been calling on the government, which was a major shareholder in the airline, to negotiate a fair and amicable settlement.
The government, on the other hand, has accused the union of not negotiating in good faith.
