A 34-year-old man could face a serious sentence after being convicted of raping his 14-year-old second cousin.
The man was found guilty by a jury in the High Court after a short trial before Justice Ann Marie Smith.
The incident occurred on August 1 2020, when the victim was taken by her father to visit one of her cousins.
The accused-31 at the time- and his wife also lived at the home and when the victim’s father left the house, the accused went into her room and had sexual intercourse with her.
Later, he apologised to her, but she reported the incident four days later, prompted by her parents confronting her about leaving the house and lying to her mother about it.
The accused denied the allegations but after the trial, the jury unanimously decided that he was guilty.
He is now awaiting his sentencing scheduled for June 14.
