The SIDS Global Children and Youth Action Summit delegates have documented their commitment to the SID4 action plan.

The SIDS Global Children and Youth Action Summit delegates have documented their commitment to the SID4 action plan.

During an exercise on Saturday, day two of the summit at the University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus, the participants each wrote their commitment on boxes, which were then used to build the “SIDS4 Commitment to Action Wall.”

UNICEF’s representative to the Eastern Caribbean, Pieter Bult, told reporters that ” what these children and youth have brought to this room comes from consultations across the world with thousands of their peers over the last few months.”

He says that, after those consultations and discussions over the past two days of the summit, the participants have now adopted the commitment to action.

“This commitment to action is aimed at what children and young people are going to do to help implement the Antigua and Barbuda Action Plan for SIDS.”

“The children and youth, have documented how they individually will contribute to implementing the SIDS children and youth action plan,” Bult stated.

He went on to explain that, “The purpose of having the summit ahead of the SIDS4 conference is to make sure that the leaders will come here to adopt the Antigua and Barbuda Action Plan for SIDS4 which is the development agenda for SIDS for the next 10 years.”
