Man found guilty of knocking down elderly woman and killing her

Claude Steadroy James has been found guilty of killing an elderly woman by driving dangerously.

James has been on trial over the past weeks before Justice Tunde Bakre, accused of causing death by dangerous driving in relation to Elba Perez.

The 61-year-old Hispanic woman was struck by a vehicle on Joseph Lane on the night of April 13, 2021, and later died in hospital.

 

The medical report from the hospital outlined that on arrival, Perez was bleeding profusely from lacerations to the roof of her mouth, the first part of the tongue, and upper lip, and had bruising around the left eye, she was not reacting to light while her right eye reacted slowly to light.

She had fractures to the back and front of her ribs, as was seen on a Chest X-ray, and also bleeding in the brain.

Moments ago, a jury found James guilty of the charge. He however, remains out on bail until sentencing.
