Dr. Wayne Wesley, CEO of CXC
The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) has officially reversed its decision to suspend four subjects.
The subjects are: CAPE Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology, CAPE Green Engineering, CSEC Agricultural Science (double award), and CSEC Industrial Technology (mechanical option).
Initially, CXC had announced the suspension of these syllabuses but later retracted its decision, opting instead to discuss the matter with stakeholder countries.
Following a meeting with education ministers this morning, Dr. Wayne Wesley, CEO of CXC, stated that the ministers were “forthright in their positions, as well as pledging their support for CXC and for more direct lines of communications with the Council.”
The decision to suspend the subjects came after considerations of the lack of human and physical resources, as well as low enrolment.
Wesley said that while the syllabuses will remain, in order to increase demand for the subjects “governments will work with CXC in a partnership in building demand for these new programs to enable their cost viability.”
“A collective regional marketing thrust to promote the priority subject areas in STEM or STEAM education and climate-smart agriculture, which are considered critical for the economic growth and sustainable development of the region,” Wesley added.
