You can now listen to Antigua News articles!

A quiet Sunday night took a terrifying turn when gunfire erupted on Parliament Drive, leaving two men injured. The St. John’s community was rocked by reports of another shooting incident under investigation by local authorities.

According to police statements, a 23-year-old man from Ottos and a 56-year-old from Pigotts were driving northbound on Parliament Drive around 8 p.m. when the unthinkable happened. As they passed the former House of Culture, a deafening explosion shattered the calm.

The younger man, seated in the passenger seat of the Kia Sportage, cried out in pain as a bullet tore through his right hand. The same projectile then struck the driver, grazing his chest.

Despite his injuries, the driver quickly maneuvered the vehicle towards the nearby hospital, just yards from the scene. Both men were admitted in stable condition as medical staff alerted the Criminal Investigations Department.

Evidence technicians swiftly secured the bullet-riddled Sportage, recovering the spent round from the driver’s side floor. The Forensic and Evidence Recovery Unit thoroughly processed the vehicle for any additional clues.

While a search of the surrounding area yielded no suspects, the brazen attack has left the community on edge. Police have not released any details about a potential motive or the circumstances leading up to the shooting.

As the investigation unfolds, residents anxiously await answers and justice for this latest act of violence that has once again disrupted the peace in their neighborhood.
