The US National Hurricane Center (NHC) is currently monitoring two tropical disturbances. The latest one is located in the Gulf of Mexico, while the second one, Invest 90L, is continuing to move offshore of the southeastern US.

In the NHC’s 8 am update on Disturbance One (Invest 90L), it was reported that satellite data and surface observations indicate that the low-pressure area offshore of the southeastern US coast has become a little better organized since yesterday.

However, upper-level winds remain strong, and the system is forecast to merge with a front over the western Atlantic on Saturday or Sunday.

Regardless of development, heavy rainfall is forecast to continue across portions of the Florida peninsula through Saturday.

Disturbance One has a 20 per cent (low) formation chance through 48 hours and a 20 per cent (low) formation chance through seven days.

Meanwhile, in its update on Disturbance Two, the NHC said a broad area of low pressure is forecast to form over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico late this weekend or early next week.

Environmental conditions appear conducive for gradual development of this system, and a tropical depression could form during the early or middle part of next week while it moves slowly westward or west-northwestward.

Disturbance Two has a zero per cent (low) formation chance through 48 hours and a 50 per cent (medium) formation chance through seven days.
