A team of specialists from the University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine campus, is set to visit Antigua to collaborate with the National Housing and Urban Renewal Company and the Works Department within the Ministry of Housing, Works, Lands, and Urban Renewal.
These experts will provide consultation on an innovative roof sealant product developed by UWI, which aims to enhance the durability and sustainability of flat concrete roofs.
This visit comes at the invitation of the Minister of Housing, Works, Lands, and Urban Renewal, Hon. Maria Browne, who underscored the urgent need for sustainable and advanced solutions in Antigua’s construction industry.
Like many other nations, Antigua and Barbuda faces significant challenges in maintaining the integrity of flat concrete roofs found in residential and commercial buildings.
Minister Browne highlighted the importance of this collaboration, stating, “We are excited to welcome the experts from UWI to share their knowledge and innovative solutions.
This initiative aligns with our commitment to adopting sustainable practices and improving the quality of our housing infrastructure.
The new sealant product has the potential to address longstanding issues with flat concrete roofs, providing a more durable and cost-effective solution for our local construction industry.”
