Hurricane Beryl Strengthens; Windward Islands Brace for Impact

Hurricane Beryl make its way to the Windward Islands

As of 11:00 PM AST, Hurricane Beryl has intensified to 85 mph winds and is rapidly approaching the Windward Islands. Located 595 miles east-southeast of Barbados, Beryl is moving west at 20 mph.

Hurricane warnings are in effect for Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Grenada. Tropical storm warnings cover Martinique and Tobago, with a watch for Dominica.

Beryl is expected to become a major hurricane before reaching the Windwards late Sunday night. Devastating winds, life-threatening storm surge of 5-7 feet, and heavy rainfall of 3-6 inches are forecast.

Residents in warned areas should rush preparations to completion. Further strengthening is likely, and additional warnings may be issued.
