Over the weekend, Prime Minister Gaston Browne stated that Antigua and Barbuda has proposed to host the Loss and Damage Fund, which aims to assist small island nations in recovering from natural disasters like hurricanes.
He highlighted the disproportionate impact of climate change on these states and emphasized the need for immediate assistance following disasters.
The fund’s operation involves creating individual funds for each small island nation, with contributions coming from major polluting countries.
PM Browne stressed the fund’s significance due to the increasing frequency and intensity of storms and mentioned Antigua and Barbuda’s receipt of an opinion asserting that polluting countries have caused harm to the marine environment.
