Former US President Donald Trump had gunshots fired at him as he was speaking at a rally in Butler, near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

He appeared to be struck on the right ear as he addressed a large crowd and was quickly led off stage by Secret Service agents, after ducking down with screams ringing out.

A still image of Mr Trump seemed to show blood on the side of his face as he was escorted to a waiting vehicle, before being whisked away to a nearby medical facility, where he was said to be safe and he has since confirmed that he is “fine”.

Unconfirmed statements from witnesses suggested that a gunman had fired from a building close by and had subsequently been shot by the Secret Services, but with much confusion these early reports are extremely sketchy.

Mr Trump was showing off a chart of border crossing numbers when suddenly as many as ten shots were fired and it seems he was incredibly fortunate to only receive a graze, but others in the crowd sadly do not seem to have been so lucky and it is reported that multiple people were hit and taken away in ambulances.

Spokesperson Steven Cheung said in a statement: “President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act”.

President Joe Biden said he was not briefed on the shooting, when approached by reporters as he walked out of a church in Delaware.
