The sentencing of a man who admitted to sexually assaulting his young daughter has been postponed, potentially until later this month.
The defendant, who pleaded guilty to four counts of incest, appeared in court recently, where new information about his case came to light.
Defence attorney Wendel Alexander suggested to the court that his client’s actions may be linked to abuse the defendant himself experienced as a child.
In light of this, Alexander requested a psychological evaluation be conducted before sentencing proceeds.
As a result, the court has adjourned the matter until July 29.
The case involves multiple instances of sexual abuse that occurred between 2014 and 2015 when the victim was approximately 15 years old.
However, the victim alleges that the abuse began much earlier, starting when she was just 9 years old. She reportedly informed her school counsellor about the abuse at age 11 but claims she was coerced by her father to retract her statement.
The abuse resulted in the victim becoming pregnant at age 15.
The sexual assaults continued even after she gave birth.
At the time of these offenses, the accused was in his early 40s.
