In the first half of 2024, the Customs Division reported a significant 20% increase in revenues compared to the same period in the previous year.
The Comptroller of Customs, Raju Boddu, attributed this growth to various factors, including improved efficiency in revenue collection and increased economic activity.
Boddu highlighted the impact of seasonal events and continued growth in construction projects as contributors to the increased revenue collection.
Furthermore, major events such as the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup also played a significant role in driving higher levels of consumption and subsequently increasing customs revenues.
The Comptroller emphasized that the country’s economy stands to benefit from these major events, as they generate increased demand, leading to higher import volumes and, subsequently, more customs revenues.
He also noted that the total value of goods imported into the country is expected to exceed $2 billion in 2024, surpassing the previous year’s figures.
Notably, imports for the first half of 2024 have already surpassed the $1 billion mark.
