The Prices and Consumer Affairs Division is appealing for patience from members of the public as it relates to the implementation of changes to the Price Control Order that will take effect as of August 1.
The order is being revised to include the addition of critical items such as adult diapers, antibacterial ointment, bed pad/liner, infant products, personal care items (deodorant, lotion, mouthwash, shampoo and conditioner), fabric softener, sanitary napkins, seeds, tofu and chunks being added to the order for the first time.
Additionally, aerated water, mineral water, condensed milk, confectionery, cereal and other foods with high sugar content have been removed. This means the division will have direct oversight of the sales price of these items.
Acting Director of the Prices and Consumer Affairs Division Ashadie Edwards appealed for the understanding of members of the public with the process that she explained is new and may include a little hiccup in the initial stages.
“It is going to take a little time and it is going to be a tedious process because new items are being added. If you notice that the price of the items is higher than usual you can call into the office, make a complaint and the officers will investigate it and take it from there,” Edwards said.
Edwards also underscored the importance for traders and consumers to take note of the changes.
“Traders will need to purchase the Price Control order from the governments printer as these new items which are added you will see the breakdown of what marks are added to the list. Also, some of the new items some of the items will be subjected to inspection and police as of August 1, some of the items in the vegetarian stores,” Edwards said.
Traders can obtain a copy of the Price Control Order from the Governments Printery for $2.70. the document must be displayed prominently for consumers to access it.
