ABRCS Receives Timely Disaster Response Donations from USAID

The (Antigua and Barbuda Red Cross Society) is the recipient of a timely donation of disaster relief items from the (United States Agency for International Development) USAID.

The items include tarpaulins, and an assortment of solar lights which will no doubt improve the ABRCS response capacity during disaster.

Speaking on behalf the donor, Terry Morris, the Disaster Risk Management Specialist for USAID Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (USAID/BHA) expressed the organization’s commitment towards working with the ABRCS and his appreciation for the partnership with the National Society.

He emphasized that all items were procured locally which is a pivotal focus of the donors. 

Morris expressed thanks to the President of the ABRCS, Dr. J. Humphreys, for his profound leadership and attention to detail while working with him for the past two (2) years.

Dr. Humphreys in his response outlined the ABRCS commitment towards its mandate as an auxiliary to public authority, inter alia, to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by armed conflict and other violence and promote the laws that protect victims of war, while serving those mostly in need.

The President said the climate change impact and the need for robust disaster preparedness and management plans that will ultimately mitigate risks, improve response and overall outcomes during disasters.

Minister of Health and Social Transformation, Sir Molwyn Joseph, expressed his elation at the partnership forged between the organizations and reiterated his support for the ABRCS. 

He lauded the President for his leadership and referred to him as one of the “brightest minds in Antigua and Barbuda.”

He confirmed his confidence in the President and his openness to collaborations with the ABRCS. 

The Minister applauded the efforts of the Red Cross locally and internationally and expressed his appreciation to USAID for its leading role in assisting small island developing states.
