Festival’s Minister Daryll Mathew said he is pleased with the level of youth participation in this year’s carnival festivities so far. The official events kicked off on Thursday with the Opening of Carnival.

“The next week coming up is where all the action happens. You know, our youngsters have been coming out, they’re performing well, the music has been quite good.  I like the fact that a lot of young new bands have come on stream, and the mass groups have all been reporting amazing massive numbers in terms of registration, and so I believe the participation is going to be great” the minister said.

“I hope the weather holds and we don’t have any sort of inclement weather, and I’m just praying that the behavior is good, there are no incidents, and we have an incident free carnival, he added.

The activities continued Sunday afternoon with the West Indies Oil Company Junior Carnival and the Junior Calypso Monarch.

The action continues Monday night with the Eastern Caribbean Amalgamated Bank’s Mr. and Mr. Teenage Pageant, Drue’s Day July 30th, Jaycees Queen Show July 31 and Emancipation Day watchnight service and Melting Pot on August 1.

Other activities include Cavalier Rum Calypso Monarch, State Insurance Company Limited Panorama, APUA Inet Party Monarch, J”ouvert and Last Lap celebrations.
