Carnival celebrations are receiving a boost with the arrival of nearly 100 mas’ players from Guadeloupe, who are bringing some French flair to the festivities.
They arrived in St John’s yesterday as part of the 450 passengers aboard the Jeans for Freedom ferry service from Guadeloupe.
Upon arrival, the visitors were greeted by steel pan players and moko jumbie stilt walkers.
According to Tourism Authority CEO Colin James, the boat’s arrival signifies “another good day for Antigua and Barbuda.”
Many of the visitors are staying for Carnival, with the ferry providing regular connectivity between the two destinations.
The Tourism Authority is working to establish a shared, regular ferry service with Guadeloupe.
Charmaine Brown-Spencer of the Tourism Authority noted that the collaboration with the Guadeloupe Ferry has been successful since emerging from the Covid pandemic.
