National track star Joella Lloyd’s Paris Olympics campaign has come to a close following a narrow miss in qualifying for the next round of the women’s 100 metres event.
Competing in heat 8, Lloyd crossed the finish line in seventh place, clocking a time of 11.37 seconds.
Unfortunately, this performance wasn’t enough to secure her spot in the subsequent round, as only the top five finishers from each heat advanced.
The heat witnessed impressive performances from seasoned athletes. Ivory Coast’s Marie-Josée Ta Lou dominated the race, securing first place with a blazing time of 10.87 seconds.
Close on her heels was Jamaican sprint legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who claimed the second position with a time of 10.92 seconds.
While Lloyd’s Olympic appearance has concluded, Antigua and Barbuda’s hopes in the sprinting events remain alive.
The nation’s attention now turns to Cejhae Greene, who is set to compete in the men’s 100 metre sprint on Saturday.
Greene will carry the country’s aspirations for advancement in this highly anticipated event.
