Tropical Depression Four is intensifying as it approaches Florida’s Gulf Coast, prompting authorities to issue multiple warnings and watches.
The system, currently located near western Cuba with sustained winds of 30 mph, is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm and potentially reach hurricane status by the weekend.
A Hurricane Watch has been issued for the coast from Aucilla River to Yankeetown, while Tropical Storm Warnings and Watches cover various parts of Florida’s west coast and Keys.
The National Weather Service has also issued a Storm Surge Watch for areas from Bonita Beach to the Aucilla River, including Tampa Bay and Charlotte Harbor, with potential surges of 2-5 feet above ground level.
The depression is forecast to bring heavy rainfall of 5-10 inches, with localized amounts up to 15 inches, raising concerns about flash flooding and river flooding across Florida and the Southeast U.S. coast.
Additionally, there’s a risk of isolated tornadoes in the Florida Keys and western Florida Peninsula.
