A male suspect is currently in police custody as they continue to investigate the country’s sixth homicide of the year.

The deceased  has been identified as 43-year-old Kergus Martin from Liberta.

Martin, a well-known member of his community, was fatally shot around 11:00 pm and was pronounced dead at the hospital at 11:50 pm.

According to reports, the male suspect is cooperating with the police. However, he has not yet been charged.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:00 pm on Tuesday, August 6.

An unidentified individual, armed with a gun, reportedly fired multiple rounds at a group of people under a tent in an area known as Shanty-Town, a popular location for gambling during the Carnival celebrations.

Martin sustained multiple injuries and was rushed to the hospital, along with a 28-year-old individual from Gambles and two others aged 17 and 18 from Liberta.

The 17-year-old has been treated and released, while the other two victims are said to be in critical condition. Additionally, a man dressed in dark clothing and wearing a mask was reportedly seen in the vicinity.

Authorities suspect that this tragic incident may have stemmed from a dispute.

The police are now in the process of interviewing other individuals who might have valuable information to aid in the investigation.
