Carnival 2024 Awards $1.5 Million in Prize Money

12 August 2024 - 05:00

The Festivals Commission has announced that the prize money for Carnival winners in 2024 totals over $1.5 million.

Senator Shenella Govia, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Creative Industries, highlighted that the prize money has been disbursed to all winners during the Carnival contests.

She mentioned that payments were made on stage at the end of each show, with winners receiving a symbolic display check and a cashable check.

Senator Govia also emphasized that there are outstanding payments for unplaced participants, which can be collected from the Festivals Office.

Moreover, the Commission has paid up to seventy-five percent of the contracted amounts to many service providers for Carnival.

The remainder of the payments is expected to be settled with the support of the Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda.

Senator Govia recognized the significant role played by sponsors in ensuring the success of Carnival 2024 and urged them to continue their support in the future.

She also challenged sponsors to increase their contributions for Carnival 2025, emphasizing the importance of their support in the development of the nation’s cultural expressions.
