George Akeba Chiddick has been remanded to His Majesty’s Prison following his first court appearance in St. John’s Magistrate Court on serious firearm-related charges.

The Gray’s Farm resident faces accusations of shooting with intent to do grievous bodily harm, possession of a .32 pistol and a matching bullet, and using a firearm to commit an offence.

The charges stem from an incident at his No. 3 George Street home last Tuesday, where police say a young woman was shot in her leg.

At this morning’s hearing,  Magistrate Dale Hamilton Jr. noted that only the High Court can grant bail for firearm offences.

Committal proceedings set to begin October 10 will determine if the case will advance to the High Court.

I am somehow pleased that no bail has been granted, these persons walking around with illegal firearms must face the penalties. Same way it’s just sad that they till round up not changing after so much time

It’s always sad to see persons that haven’t even lived life as yet have themselves in these types of situation. I mean why should a gun define your life?
