The Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) Electricity Business Unit has worked extensively to restore extensive power outage which it blamed on an issue of the Friars Hill substation among other challenges.
Electricity Manager Andre Matthias said the outage was actually due to a fault underlying the Friars Hill substation and the Friars Hill substation.
However, there was also a system collapsed and by Tuesday morning and afternoon they had some additional challenges.
“You know once we would have put the system back together, we had some challenges with feeders. As we re-energize feeders, we had problems on the line. We had situations with vegetation management, we had situations with insulators and challenges on the line throughout the day,” Mathias explained.
Up to late Wednesday evening Mathias said about 95 percent of APUA customers were re-energized, and he anticipates the remaining customers will be powered up by Thursday.
