Festivals Commission Chairperson Demands Apology from Whitney Williams or Face Lawsuit

Lawyers representing Elizabeth Makhoul, the Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission Chairperson, have written to Whitney Williams of Stonewall Sound System asking for an apology or run the risk of facing a lawsuit.

The attorneys claim that Williams made defamatory statements on his WhatsApp Status against Makhoul between August 9, 2024, and August 11, 2024.

Williams reportedly posted several statements about Makhoul, accompanied by an image of her in an Antigua Newsroom article titled “Technical difficulties at carnival shows blamed on service providers who over-extended themselves’.

The letter claimed several defamatory statements were made, which our newsroom will not repeat.

The attorney is demanding an apology within three days of service of this letter and that an apology be issued by way of publication via your WhatsApp Status in the following terms:

“l publicly apologize to Elizabeth Makhoul, Chairperson of the Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission, for the defamatory statements made concerning her, and I unequivocally state that I do not have any evidence or information that would tend to support my previous defamatory statements. “

The lawyers demand that the apology remain on Williams’s WhatsApp Status for 24 hours until the post expires.

Two screenshots of the published apology, with a difference in timestamp of at least 12 hours apart, must be emailed to the lawyers to confirm your compliance.

“Failure to comply with this request will leave us with no other choice but to commence legal proceedings against you”, the lawyers said
