PM Pleads with Young Men to Refrain from Criminal Activities

19 August 2024 - 10:44

Prime Minister Gaston Browne

In a heartfelt plea, Prime Minister Gaston Browne is reaching out to the young men of Antigua and Barbuda, urging them to stay away from crime and violence.

The appeal comes in response to a recent armed robbery involving three young men in Parham, which tragically resulted in a shootout with the police and the loss of one life.

Even prior to that incident, several young men were caught on camera, robbing supermarkets and entering the properties of residents

During an appearance on the Browne and Browne show on Pointe FM radio, the prime minister emphasized the severe consequences of a criminal lifestyle and encouraged young men to explore the abundant employment opportunities available in the country.

Expressing deep concern for the youth who may be disinterested in legitimate work, Prime Minister Browne underscored the harsh reality that crime and violence lead to dire outcomes.

He emphasized that individuals involved in criminal activities face significant risks, including the possibility of losing their lives.

The prime minister urged young men to seek meaningful employment, citing the shortage of workers in sectors such as construction and the government’s commitment to creating job opportunities, particularly through projects like the painting of government offices.

  1. Look who is talking: a man who used to be a gang leader in his youth and still behaves like a gangster. The young men in our society are imitating you, Mr. PM. You may not have done what they’re doing now, killing, stealing and raping, but they’re trying to imitating you, and the Jamaican culture, Mr PM.
