Two preschools on the island have been given water storage tanks in order to ensure a consistent water supply to their educational facilities.
The initiative is part of the Technology Needs Assessment Project, supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and carried out by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
It is a demonstration of the Department of the Environment’s (DOE) dedication to involving local communities in enhancing awareness about climate change.
As the Technology Needs Assessment Project neared completion, the DOE initiated a contest to promote climate change awareness and gather valuable public feedback.
Participants in the survey had the chance to choose a preschool to receive a climate technology as a token of appreciation for their involvement in partnership with local preschools.
As a part of this effort, Beacon Light Nazarene and Deanery Lane Preschools were both awarded a 1,000-gallon water tank.
However, due to logistical obstacles, the delivery of these incentives required some additional time to be completed.
The DOE has confirmed that all concerns have now been addressed, and the final tank was successfully delivered on Monday, August 19, 2024. Additionally, concrete bases were installed at each location to ensure the durability and proper use of these tanks.
