Gregory Athill

Gregory Athill has been elected as president of the Antigua and Barbuda National Taxi Association, the largest taxi association in the country.

This is the first leadership change in ten years. The Annual General Meeting was held earlier this week.

Denley Millette was elected as Vice President, Sherry Murraine as General Secretary, Patrick Browne as Assistant Secretary, John Weston as Treasurer, Ronnie Roberts as Assistant Treasurer, Ishan Charles as Public Relations Officer, Kysa Francis as Education Officer, and Cordell Anthony as Project Coordinator.

The new executive team will serve a two-year term, succeeding the longstanding president, Daniel Tittle, who held the position for five consecutive terms.

One of the association’s primary concerns is the increasing use of private vehicles with ‘A’ or ‘C’ plates for taxi operations, bypassing the necessary training, licensing, and character checks.

Furthermore, Athill expressed concern about the challenges that legitimate taxi operators face in obtaining firearms licenses, despite meeting all the requirements set by the police.

This issue is particularly troubling given the potential safety risks involved in the transportation industry.
The association, represents over 200 taxi operators.
