The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority is thrilled to announce the upcoming second edition of Antigua and Barbuda Art Week 2024, scheduled to be held from November 27 to December 3, 2024.
This week-long event promises to showcase a diverse array of artistic expressions, from vibrant visual art to captivating live performances, highlighting Antigua and Barbuda’s burgeoning art scene within the Caribbean.
The Minister of Tourism for Antigua and Barbuda, The Hon. Charles Fernandez, emphasized the significance of the event by stating, “Art Week provides a platform to exhibit the remarkable talent and creativity that thrives in Antigua and Barbuda.
We are enthusiastic about sharing our culture and varied art forms with the world, offering our artists the opportunity to shine and providing immersive art experiences for our visitors.”
Visitors attending Antigua and Barbuda Art Week can look forward to presentations by both emerging and established artists.
Over 20 talented artists are set to demonstrate their creativity, bringing to life the unique artistic talents of the country.
Among the confirmed participating artists are: Heather Doram MFA GCM, Stephen Murphy, Gilly Gobinet, Kelly Hull, Vincent Pryce Zifah, Maritza Martin, Carol Gordon-Goodwin, Simone Gordon, Wakida Joseph, Anfrenette Joseph, Faye Edwards, Artsy Yaadie(Stacie Shaw), Zoë Carlton, Makŏ Williams, Candi Coates, Glenroy Aaron, Mark Brown, Emile Hill, Dylan Elias Phillips and Guava De Art.
Additionally, designers Garrett Argent Javan, Launesha Barnes, and Odelia Deazle will also be featured within Art Week.
Heather Doram, MFA, GCM, a prominent contemporary Antiguan artist whose work is being highlighted in Antigua and Barbuda Art Week 2024 promotions, expressed her excitement, stating, “I am eagerly anticipating the celebration of Art Week here in Antigua and Barbuda. I am thrilled that the artists and creatives will be recognized during this exciting week of activities, and that Art Week has become a staple on our calendar of events. A warm welcome to everyone!”
Art Week attendees will have the opportunity to further explore various art forms through immersive art and culture guided tours, art workshops, and interactive sessions led by featured artists.
Maria Blackman, Marketing Communications Manager at the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority and a member of the Art Week committee, noted, “Antigua and Barbuda Art Week serves as a true celebration of our nation’s artists, ranging from young, emerging talents to seasoned professionals.
Expect to experience environmentally conscious art, fashion from our young designers, be swept up in our music and dance, discover hidden galleries, experience art through mixology, explore the beauty of seed work from tamarind and jumbie seeds, and shop unique arts and crafts. Art Week 2024 will awaken all senses, and we could not be prouder to host it.”
Event Highlights:
1. Schools Art Competition: Scheduled to launch in September, the competition will be open to artists in both primary and secondary schools, with outstanding works to be displayed at the V.C. Bird International Airport.
2. Exhibitions and Galleries: Various artwork, including paintings, carvings, sculptures, and installations, will be showcased in galleries and public spaces across Antigua and Barbuda.
3. Workshops: Hands-on workshops led by local artists will offer attendees a unique opportunity to learn new techniques, gain insight into the creative process, and delve into the country’s cultural heritage.
4. Art Talks: Engage with artists and experts during insightful panel discussions about the arts in Antigua and Barbuda.
5. Live Art Performances: Experience dynamic live music, dance, and spoken word performances.
6. Paint Sessions: Elevated sip and paint sessions that explore mixology as art and allow participants to get creative through painting.
7. Art Tours: Participate in guided tours that traverse the twin islands, immersing attendees in the culture and taking them into the homes and galleries of artists to explore their works.
8. Christmas market: Shop for beautifully crafted, locally made artisan products and crafts that will make unique gifts for any occasion.
