Anti-gang legislation goes to parliament today

Today, the House of Representatives will discuss the Anti-Gang Bill and other related legislative measures in an effort to address gang activity in the country.

The Anti-Gang Bill aims to prevent the formation of gangs, stop the recruitment of gang members, and impose harsher penalties for gang-related activities.

Attorney General Sir Steadroy Benjamin emphasized that the government is taking a proactive approach to tackle gang issues, citing input from various organizations and community members.

The government’s efforts, including direct engagement with gang members by the Prime Minister, have already shown promising results in reducing criminal activities involving youth.

There has been widespread support for these initiatives, with residents rallying behind the government’s efforts to address gang-related issues.

How is this proactive? Just another reactive law to try and bandage an issue. Government needs to find and train Police better, give more police firearm training or even just have more community policing. Anti-gang law is a good thing but it’s gonna take a lot of foot work to make things better, not just a law that can easily be broken by anyone who knows how to keep their mouths shut. On top of that they need to pay police risk allowance for all the dangerous situations they have to get in, maybe if police get risk pay they will be more willing to go the extra mile and do their jobs properly.
