Former Prison Guard Remanded for Murder

Former prison officer Dwight Rodney Peters, from Ovals, has been remanded to His Majesty’s Prison on a murder charge.

Peters’s legal representation is led by Attorney Wayne Benjamin Marsh. He tells Antigua.news that he will seek alternative holding arrangements while also pursuing bail in the High Court.

Peters stands accused of the murder of inmate Ricknaldo Isaac from Bendals.

The case has been adjourned until November 25, with Acting Chief Magistrate Dexter Wason presiding over the proceedings.

During the court session, a number of Peters’ former colleagues appeared in a display of solidarity.

Tensions reportedly escalated later, when the deceased’s father expressed his satisfaction with the outcome on the court grounds.

Isaac, aged 26, sustained grave injuries in a prior altercation at His Majesty’s Prison. He was reportdely slammed to the ground by Peters. He died in May.

the correctional facility earlier this year, passing away in May and being laid to rest last week.

    This really sad. But the conditions that these prison officers are forced to work under to earn their bread, it horrible and maybe he took his frustrations out on the guy. I am really sorry for the young man too but my understanding is that the victim is a trouble maker and used to antagonize the officers.

    The young man died since May., it’s now September. Both sides of the ‘coin’ must be suffering. I hope the AG will address the problem of the deplorable conditions prison officers have to work under. And pay much-needed attention to the issues that exists behind those prison walls.
