The Finance Minister, Gaston Browne, has hinted at the possibility of adding eggs to the list of controlled items.
This announcement comes in light of the recent statement by the Farmers Association, which highlighted an upcoming increase in the price of eggs to $14 per dozen.
Browne, speaking in Parliament, expressed concern about the disproportionate rise in egg prices and suggested that their cost may need to be regulated.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne also mentioned that the government is contemplating including eggs in the list of price-controlled items to counter their escalating prices.
He emphasized the significant price hikes in the industry, with egg suppliers reportedly increasing prices by 20 or 30 percent after a mere 10 percent cost rise.
Nevertheless, farmers have raised concerns that while price controls may help, they may not fully address the broader challenges faced by the industry.
