Osbert Fredrick to Replace Sir Gerald Watt as House Speaker

Sir Gerald Watt and Osbert Frederick

Speaker of the House of Assembly Sir Gerald Watt will be concluding his tenure at the end of this parliamentary session, as confirmed by Attorney General Sir Steadroy Benjamin in Parliament on Monday.

Obsert Frederick, who currently serves in the senate as vice president, will succeed Watt’s role.

In turn, Frederick will be replaced by ABLP caretaker for St Johns Rural West, Micheal Joseph.

This transition marks a significant change in leadership within the Assembly.

Sir Gerald’s invaluable contributions will be remembered as he passes on the responsibility to Orbsert Frederick.

Watt has been the Speaker of the House of Representatives since 25 June 2014.

  7. This is a disgrace. A House Speaker must have some air of independence, credibility, and impartiality. Parties must stop making their functionaries and henchmen Speakers. Watts came without obvious affiliation but then showed his bias every day.

    Osbert may be worse. Disgraceful.
