The Cabinet and the Poultry Association have agreed to postpone the planned price hike for eggs for local consumers.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne sent a message to the association informing them that the Cabinet would consider removing all duties, taxes, and restrictions on the importation of eggs.

On Wednesday, the association was invited to a Cabinet meeting to discuss its proposal to raise the wholesale price of eggs. The association cited factors such as heat waves affecting egg production and increased feed costs.

After deliberation, it was decided that a study would be conducted within the next 60 days to determine the production cost of eggs.

Additionally, a Poultry Board comprising members from various relevant sectors will be established to regulate the pricing of poultry products.

The Cabinet also addressed the implementation of promised discounts on APUA water and expressed concerns about the association importing feed for its members and potentially exploiting consumers.
