Flash Flood Watch for Antigua and Barbuda

26 September 2024 - 12:09

A Flash Flood watch is in place for the flood-prone areas of Antigua, Barbuda, Montserrat, St. Kitts, and Nevis until 4 p.m. This means that while moderate to major flooding is not imminent, it is possible in the watch area. It’s important to note that flash flooding is extremely hazardous.

The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services advises residents in flood-prone areas to take precautions to protect life and property. They should also be ready to relocate to higher ground if flooding rains occur or if a flash flood warning is issued.

A very active tropical wave over the Leeward Islands is causing intermittent moderate to heavy showers, with 2 to 3 inches or more of rainfall possible within 3 to 6 hours. As a result, moderate to major flooding in flood-prone areas is a possibility.

The Met Office will continue to monitor the weather situation closely.
