SEVERAL PERSONS IN POLICE CUSTODY FOR ILLEGAL FIREARM, AMMUNITION AND DRUGS

Several persons are in police custody after they were found in possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, and cannabis.

On Thursday, September 26, police executed a search warrant on a property at Liberta and seized one 9mm firearm and several rounds of ammunition, along with a portion of cannabis. Four persons were arrested and taken into custody for questioning.

Meanwhile, two residents of Clark’s Hill were also arrested and taken into custody on Thursday, after the police searched their home and found over 100 rounds of different caliber ammunition, and a quantity of cannabis in their possession. They are also being questioned by the police.

From 1st January 2024 to present, the police have confiscated 47 illegal firearms and over 400 rounds of ammunition from off the streets. Within the same period, several persons have been arrested and charged for firearm-related offences and taken before the court.

Many of them were convicted and fined or sentenced to prison.

The police have promised to continue intensifying their crime-fighting measures in an effort to rid the streets of illegal firearms and keep crime under control.
