SLBMC hosts 4th Breast Cancer Symposium

7 October 2024 - 05:32

In observance of Breast Cancer Month in October, the Sir Lester Bird Medical Center (SLBMC) hosted its 4th annual Breast Cancer Symposium at Sandals Grande Antigua on Saturday morning.

Breast cancer is identified as the most common cancer in the Twin Island nation, followed by prostate and gynecological cancers.

The symposium aimed to chart the way forward for education aspects of oncology, acute gynecologic, and prostate cancer as part of the broader breast cancer discussion.

Delivering remarks at the event, Dr. Albert Duncan, Medical Director at the SLBMC, said he is extremely proud of the changes that have been accomplished there over the past nine years.

Each October, the SLBMC comes together to advance knowledge through continuing medical education and strengthening advocacy for persons with breast cancer and those yet to be diagnosed.

The hospital has also collaborated with and formed partnerships with breast friends through the annual breast screenings conducted at the SLBMC, and also partnered with CIBC First Caribbean for Walk for the Cure, and the Tickle Me Pink, focused on fundraising for the cause.

The symposium attracted dozens of medical professionals across the Twin Island state.

Governor General Sir Rodney Williams was also present at the event.
