Indian Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, Pabitra Margherita, recently concluded a brief visit to Antigua and Barbuda, during which he advocated for the streamlining of travel between his country and St. John’s. Minister Margherita emphasized the importance of fostering stronger bilateral relations through enhanced people-to-people contacts.

He proposed simplifying visa procedures and establishing mobility partnerships to facilitate seamless travel between the two nations.
Furthermore, he expressed eagerness to collaborate closely with the government of Antigua and Barbuda to bolster tourism, trade, and people-to-people partnerships. During a reception on Monday night, Minister Margherita engaged with government officials, the Indian diaspora in the country, and students who have benefited from Indian scholarships.

He also highlighted the historical ties between India and the Caribbean, particularly referencing the migration of Indian laborers to the region during the British colonial era.

This migration resulted in the establishment of a vibrant Indian and African community in the islands, contributing to the rich cultural tapestry of the Caribbean.

Moreover, Minister Margherita acknowledged the significant influence of Indian culture on the Caribbean, evident in various aspects such as cuisine and music.
