Leadership Tussle with United Taxi Company Continues

12 October 2024 - 12:42

A bitter power struggle within the United Taxi Company (UTC) is set to continue as the High Court postpones its hearing until November 21.

The dispute centres on rival claims to the presidency by Henley Daniel and Ian Joseph, following a contentious election that saw participation from only about 50 of the company’s 91 members.

This leadership crisis emerged after more than half of UTC’s membership petitioned last year for the removal of the previous executive, led by Daniel. The petitioners accused the leadership of fostering a hostile work environment.

Despite initial mediation attempts, the Cabinet has since recused itself from the conflict, leaving the matter to the courts.

Ian Joseph, representing the newly elected executive, is spearheading the push for change. He and his supporters are demanding the current leadership step down.

As both factions dig in their heels, the taxi company finds itself at a crossroads. The November court date looms large, with all parties now forced to wait for a resolution to this divisive issue that has split the UTC membership.
