Final prep underway for Youth Rally 2024
Final preparations are underway for the 2024 National Youth rally
Youth rally is set to take place this Thursday, October 24 at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium starting at 8:30 am.
Students are expected to be seated by 8:15.
Committee member Kareem Charles shared details on the program.
“To start off, we will have a mini presentation from a drum corp because we are trying to get the students more involved in activities around the island and for this year as well, we are promoting a no violence campaign.
“So, what we have done is incorporate activities on a whole involving young persons touching on no violence. One of the highlights is that we have the Teen Splash winners who will be doing a presentation on no violence that day,” Charles said.
The special drills, cheerleading, and DJ competitions will be included this year again.
Before these competitions, the march pass where all the schools display their signature salutes will take place but according to Charles, the setup will be a bit different.
Last year concerns were raised after heavy rainfall soaked several students who were lining up to march.
“Where we normally have the students lining up for a long time in the sun. This time we will have volunteers who will direct the respective schools off the stands at a particular time and then, they will form up one time and make their way onto the field and give their eyes right,” Charles explained.
The top academic students for both Grade 6 and CSEC will receive the eyes right honor this year. They will be joined by the Benna girls and a group from cycling.
Beefed-up security including spot checks will be featured at the event which is expected to end around 2 pm.
National youth rally forms part of the 43rd Independence celebrations.
The arrangement to be escorted off the stands makes no sense. It will create confusion.
I hope this year that consultations are being held with the Met Office so that an alternate date can be made in the event that it rains.
I must say this youth rally was very organized with the schools being escorted one by one off the stannds
