High tech equipment needed for the further upgrade of the nation’s road ways is set to arrive in Antigua and Barbuda shortly.

Director of the Public Works Department confirmed to state television Aldin Crump. He said the conditions of the nation’s roads are deplorable at this stage, however, this will be improved and appealed to the public for forbearance.

“Our priority is to improve the infrastructure of this country as quickly as is humanly possible. We already live in Paradise and I want to transform it to a point that we are as close as possible to heaven,” Crump said.

He said the department is implementing and using several mechanisms depended on the area and the condition of the road network. Asphalt is used on the highways where there is a high volume of traffic.

Earlier this year the Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda also approved some $21 million dollar to further build out the country’s infrastructure.

Most of the equipment, already purchase, should arrive on the island at the end of this month into November.

Crump gave his word that his department is doing all it can to effect a change as soon as it is possible.

  4. It is good to hear some good news about the rehabilitation of road infrastructure. Another thing I haven’t heard is the plan to maintain the new infrastructure, including the road drain guttering. Public Works must implement measures to inspect and maintain these roads semi-annually or annually. The manpower is already in PWD, so utilise them to perform these inspections and repairs. Also, the repair materials should always be on hand, especially for our main highways.
