Attorney General Sir Steadroy Benjamin has emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to building a robust police force during the 49th police graduation ceremony last Thursday.
Sir Steadroy highlighted the Gaston Browne administration’s continued investment in security infrastructure, including the acquisition of drones, new vehicles, and equipment for both the police force and Fire Department. He also announced the imminent arrival of seven new fire tenders to enhance the department’s capabilities.
“Safety and security continue to be a priority for this government,” Sir Steadroy stated, emphasizing the administration’s dedication to working alongside regional and international partners to improve police force efficiency.
Addressing the graduates, the Attorney General stressed the importance of continuous learning and self-development. He urged the new officers to “think outside the box” and maintain high ethical standards in their service to the community.
“Your character must be exemplary,” Sir Steadroy advised, emphasizing the importance of earning public trust through exemplary conduct and visibility in the community. He particularly emphasized the significance of community policing, encouraging officers to establish strong connections within their assigned areas.
Commissioner of Police Atlee Rodney reaffirmed the force’s commitment to comprehensive training at all levels. He expressed gratitude to the government for addressing human resource needs while noting that additional recruitment efforts are still necessary to meet the nation’s security demands.
The ceremony underscored the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance national security through improved resources and training for law enforcement personnel.
