A 45-year-old man named Karl Browne, hailing from the village of Urlings, has been sentenced to a term of imprisonment lasting 7 months, 1 week, and 3 days.

The sentence was handed down after Browne entered a guilty plea in the Magistrate’s Court on a charge of wounding a fellow resident.

Browne stood before Senior Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel in District B last week, where he acknowledged his culpability in the incident involving Adrian Pryce, also a villager from Urlings.

The court heard details surrounding the altercation that unfolded on the evening of October 27.

Pryce was visiting his sister and had stepped out to an outside kitchen to grab a snack when Browne approached him with malicious intent. In a sudden and aggressive act, Browne struck Pryce violently about the face with a cutlass, inflicting a severe injury.

In a state of distress and bleeding from a deep wound on the right side of his face, Pryce made his way to the Johnson’s Point Police Station to report the incident.

The police officer on duty documented in their report that Pryce was visibly injured, with blood streaming from the gash on his face when he sought assistance.

Emergency Medical Services were promptly called to the scene, and Pryce was swiftly transported to the hospital, where he received the necessary medical treatment for his injuries.

In the following week, Magistrate Emanuel decided to remand Browne to prison, allowing time to elapse before his sentencing, which took place on Monday.

The court adhered closely to the established sentencing guidelines regarding such offences, ensuring that justice was served in this troubling case.
