Former Prison Officer’s Murder Case Adjourned

Dwight Peters’

Former prison officer Dwight Peters’ committal hearing has been adjourned until February 27.

Peters is charged with murder in connection with the death of inmate Ricknaldo Isaac, who was inmate at the time when Peters was a corrections officer there.

The 36-year-old Peters is accused of causing critical injuries to 26-year-old Isaac during an altercation at the prison in late April.

The incident left Isaac paralyzed from the waist down, and he subsequently died in May from complications while awaiting surgery at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre.

Peters was arrested in September at VC Bird International Airport and initially appeared before Magistrate Dexter Wason.

As murder charges prohibit bail at the magistrate level, Peters was remanded in custody.

He subsequently secured bail through the High Court. He is therefore awaiting his committal hearing from outside the prison walls.
