Alarming Increase in Strokes and Heart Failures in Antigua: Dedicated Cardiology Unit to be Established

You can now listen to Antigua News articles!

The Minister of Health, Sir Molwyn Joseph, has told his Cabinet colleagues that strokes and heart failures pose a considerable challenge to the healthcare system in Antigua and Barbuda.

With a compelling argument, the Minister successfully convinced the Cabinet of the urgent need to establish a dedicated cardiology unit at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC), a move that promises to save countless lives that would otherwise be tragically lost too soon.

Heart failure, the Minister emphasized, has now surpassed diabetes and hypertension as the leading causes of health distress within the community.

This condition not only threatens physical well-being but also places a significant emotional burden on families, as occurrences often strike suddenly and without clear explanation, leaving loved ones in shock and grief.

The establishment of a specialized unit aims to address these challenges head-on, offering hope and critical care to those at risk.

The alarming increse in heart conditions is not happening only in Antigua, it’s everywhere. There is now more than enough evidence to “point fingers” at the jab we were forced to take couple of years ago

Too many people are under pressure. Living stressful lives. And many people are too prideful to seek help. Men especially were taught that they don’t need to show emotions. So they bottle everything up inside them. Blood pressure spikes are synonymous with stress.

The causes of heart failure have been known for many years. In addition to providing expensive diagnostic and treatment facilities the Minister should be spending even more time in addressing the root causes of heart failure and aggressively addressing them before the disease happens.
How about addressing lifestyle changes like more regular exercise reducing obesity in Antigua and Barbuda? IMO that is a better place to start.

It’s stress, people can barely find for or take care of their children, everything is expensive and the pay can’t comer the expenses
