Government to Invest in Student Transportation with Purchase of Six New School Buses

In an effort to enhance transportation for students, the government plans to purchase six brand-new school buses in 2025, aimed at replacing several aging units that have been in service for 18 years.

This initiative is part of a series of improvements announced by Charles Fernandez, the minister overseeing the transport sector.

Earlier this year, the government made a significant investment by acquiring four new school buses for the National School Bus System, highlighting their commitment to modernizing student transportation services.

In addition to these measures, the government aims to expand road traffic markings throughout the city, ensuring better guidance and safety for motorists and pedestrians alike.

Plans are also in place to upgrade the physical facilities at both the East and West Bus Stations, which will include improvements such as new restrooms, surveillance cameras for enhanced security, and additional office space to better serve the public.

To address the growing issue of traffic congestion, the Antigua and Barbuda Transport Board will collaborate with NAMCO to implement paid parking meters on major streets in the city, a move that Fernandez believes will help alleviate the bottlenecks often experienced during peak hours.

Furthermore, the government is looking into enhancements for driver’s license and vehicle licensing software, aiming for a smoother, more efficient user experience in the coming year.
