Former Police Commissioner Wendel Alexander to Appeal High Court Ruling on Termination

Former Commissioner of Police Wendel Alexander plans to appeal a High Court decision that dismissed his case regarding his termination by the Police Service Commission (PSC) on November 25, 2019.

Justice Jan Drysdale ruled against Alexander after hearing arguments from both sides, leading Alexander’s attorney, Wayne Benjamin Marsh, to express disbelief and confirm that they are pursuing an appeal, potentially up to the Privy Council in London.

Dr. David Dorsett, representing the PSC, stated that the commission was pleased with the ruling, highlighting concerns about Alexander’s ability to work with the Minister for Public Safety and issues regarding his temperament.

The reasons for Alexander’s termination included allegations of victimization, which he denied. Marsh argued that the PSC acted illegally and in bad faith, but the judge found that the commission acted reasonably in fulfilling its role.

Alexander had previously succeeded in a judicial review against an earlier suspension, but the PSC imposed a new suspension under regulations the court had ruled were not applicable. Dorsett noted that the PSC is prepared to handle Alexander’s other pending cases in court.

Following his termination, Atlee Rodney was appointed as the new Commissioner of Police.

  3. With Marsh King Liard, as your defender, you will lose! We all know that you will be defending yourself and I guess that King Liard is the cheapest you can get. But then again, King Liard could use some campaign funding. Good luck!
