On Saturday, the vibrant city of St. John’s buzzed with excitement as it welcomed an impressive influx of cruise tourists. A staggering total of 13,312 visitors arrived on board four magnificent vessels.

Among these were the Arvia and Emerald Azzura, both engaged in home-porting operations, adding to the lively atmosphere of the harbor.

This year has marked a historic milestone for the cruise sector, with an astonishing 806,111 passengers recorded—an unprecedented figure highlighting the industry’s enduring appeal.

The broader tourism landscape is also thriving, with all segments reporting remarkable growth. Projections for 2024 indicate that arrivals may surge by at least 15 percent compared to 2019, previously hailed as the pinnacle year for tourism.

This remarkable trajectory reinforces the growing allure of St. John’s as a prime destination for travelers seeking unforgettable experiences.

Tourism Minister Charles Fernandez told State Media that he expects increased arrivals in 2025.

“I think we would get, if not a million, probably around 900,000 for next year. We will have monthly the large ships coming in and I believe we will be able to top that,” he said

This year has proven to be remarkable for the tourism industry, with all segments experiencing unprecedented growth in visitor numbers.

The country is anticipated to welcome over 1.1 million tourists by the end of this year, which is just a few days away.

This surge reflects not only the country’s appealing attractions and diverse offerings but also a broader post-pandemic revival in travel.

As the year wraps up, this milestone hints at a promising future for tourism, highlighting both the industry’s resilience and the destination’s allure.
